Another law suit against Nestle Purina is no surprise.  Nestle Purina is getting sued again for lying about kibble ingredients.  Plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit against Nestle Purina in New York federal court for allegedly falsely advertising some of its pet food products as "natural" even though they contain synthetic ingredients.

Apparently the lawsuit claims that several of Purina's brands including Purina Cat Chow, Purina ONE, Beyond and Fancy Feast contain a bunch of unnatural ingredients including zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride and menadione sodium bisulfite complex despite being advertised as "natural."

The defendants in this class action are claiming that Nestle is falsely advertising products a "natural" to profit off of consumer preference for natural products. You can read more about the class action that was filed here

I'm not sure who needs to hear this but Nestle Purina could literally not care any less about you or your dog.  They are a huge multi-billion dollar company that cares about one thing and one thing only: PROFIT.

Their products for dogs are highly processed, full of inflammatory ingredients that are anything but natural and do not contribute to optimal health.  They will do anything to increase profit, even if it is at the expense of your dog's health.

They know exactly what they are doing.  Read on for proof.  Purina partnered with Cornell University in 1999 and developed the Canine Reference Family DNA Distribution Center, a platform for worldwide genetic data exchange.  The platform enabled researchers to better understand how diseases like cancer develop in both dogs and people by placing "hundreds of markers near specific genes and chromosomes" (Purina Institute).  Purina also supported DNA sequencing research that led to the first whole canine genome sequence.  They state, "with more accurate knowledge of the canine genome, scientists can better compare DNA among dogs and other species to understand how genetic changes can affect health."

Further, they also know that "DNA contains chemical codes that provide instructions for every cell function.  By tracking which genes are turned on or off under different conditions, researchers can identify how gene expression changes between healthy and unhealthy dogs and cats and then evaluate the impact on gene activity."

Lastly, "Purina was one of the first pet food companies to apply omics, sophisticated technology used to measure and characterize biomolecules in cells or tissues, to better understand the connection between nutrition and genetics.  This molecular-level focus continually reveals new mechanisms by which nutrient can improve pet health."

In other words, they know exactly how nutrition turns on and off specific genes that create sickness, like cancer or good health, yet they use ingredients in their products that act as a slow-form of poison in the body.  Another law suit against Nestle Purina is no surprise.

If Purina actually cared about your dog, they would use ingredients that were healthy.  Instead, they use highly-inflammatory by-products sprayed in chemicals, mass-produced at very high temperatures in filthy facilities that will never ever do what they are marketed to do.

For example, the ingredients for Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diet Gastroenteric Canine formula claims to promote digestibility and nutrient absorption and support immune health in dogs that have digestive issues.  There is literally a zero percent chance this type of kibble will do what it is marketed to do.  Take a look at the ingredients below:

  • Brewer's Rice: This ingredient is listed first, which means that Brewer's Rice makes up a lot of the food.  Brewer's rice is small milled fragments of rice kernels.  Rice is a refined grain.  Rice is high in carbohydrates and will spike glucose if fed regularly.  These regular glucose spikes lead to inflammation and disease because dogs are not meant to digest them. Unfortunately, Brewer's rice is highly processed and like most grains, is sprayed in glyphosate, a herbicide linked to cancer, liver and kidney damage and reproductive and developmental issues.
  • Corn Gluten Meal: This is a by-product of corn, which means all of the ideal nutrients have been stripped away and the rest is fed to animals. Also sprayed in glyphosate.
  • Whole Grain Corn: This is yet another highly refined grain that is high in carbohydrates.  Also sprayed in glyphosate.
  • Chicken Meal: Chicken meal is a by-product of chicken.  Meaning the ideal parts of the chicken are stripped away and used in human products and the remains are used in kibble.
  • Wheat Bran: Wheat bran is made of the outer layers of what kernel and is a starch with some protein in it and is used to promote digestion.  Also sprayed in glyphosate.
  • Natural Flavor: These are basically mystery ingredients that the government define as those that come from chemicals and manipulated in a lab for color or flavor.  These are not ideal ingredients, especially if your dog is sick.
  • Soybean oil: This is a highly refined seed oil that is high in omega 6, which has been linked to increased inflammation, which leads to disease.
  • Remaining Vitamins and Chemicals: If the food was so healthy in the first place, there wouldn't be a need to add in vitamins or chemicals.
