Curcumin and Cancer

Curcumin and Cancer

Unfortunately, the American Chemical Society reports that the United States "may witness 1,806,590 new cancer cases and 606,520 deaths caused by cancer in 2020" (Source: CancerDrugResistance) and "according to global cancer statistics (GLOBOCAN) 2020, there will be about a 47% increase in cancer incidence in 2040 as compared to the estimated cases in 2020" (Source: Molecules2021).  These statistics refers to humans, but that also means we can expect a similar and frightening stats for our dogs too.

Sadly, in this study of breed-related causes of death in dogs,"cancer was by far the most common disease category cause of death in adult dogs." Cancer and autoimmune diseases aren't increasing for no reason.  This isn't just happening randomly.  We are all a product of our environments, including our dogs, and we have not been taught the significance of exercising to help detoxify the body, optimizing nutrients (honestly, anything processed, like kibble, is just no bueno), vaccinating carefully, using medicine sparingly and truly only when we need it.  By feeding kibble, which is super high in advanced glycation end products aka AGEs (more on AGEs here), vaccinating too often and treating with medication after medication, we are messing with nature and not giving our dogs the opportunity to heal themselves naturally, the way nature designed with the support of proper nutrients, supplements and remedies.

Modern medicine can be truly life-saving and is definitely needed, but nature, the simplest solution is often ignored or overlooked by many vet clinicians today, which is why we all need this info to be better be able to advocate for our dogs (and ourselves too!)

Since nature is brilliant, turmeric exists.  Turmeric, native to the monsoon forests of south east Asia, contains a compound called curcumin, a polyphenol, a micronutrient found in plants that are anti-everything including an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal an even an anticancer and has proven to combat arthritis, diabetes, cancer, liver diseases, gastrointestinal problems, allergies, joint pain (Source: DogsNaturally) and the list goes on.

It has been used for centuries in Ayurveda, the 5,000 year old natural healing system of India (Source: AyurvedaCollege), which means that if it worked back then, it still works now.  One study even referred to it at s "Cure-cumin" because of its extensive therapeutic and clinical uses.  Another study found curcumin to be just as effective as steroids, without the cray side-effects (Source: DogsNaturally).

If your dog is facing a scary diagnosis of cancer, diabetes, vasculitis, pancreatitis or any other disease ending in "itis"  curcumin should definitely be part of your treatment plan.  You can easily supplement their diet by making golden paste (recipe here).  Golden paste is made of turmeric, filtered water, fresh ground pepper, and MCT oil, ghee or coconut oil to promote absorption in the body.  Feel free to check out the video below as well:
