Hill's Pet Nutrition Creates Kibble to Help Dogs with Cancer. We call BS.

Sounds interesting and could potentially be very helpful if the ingredients they used were actually healthy, but, unfortunately there is a zero percent chance it does what it is marketed to do.  Take a look at the ingredient list below: 

It's truly mind blowing and appalling that Hill's would even hint that this particular blend of kibble garbage provides optimal nutrition for cancer.  Here's why: 

• Whole Grain Wheat: This is a highly refined grains that spike blood sugar.  Frequent blood sugar spikes (like at each meal), create insulin resistance and inflammation and can cause diabetes.  Sugar feeds cancer cells and makes them grow bigger.  
• Corn Gluten Meal: Corn is genetically modified and also a carbohydrate, which combined with the other grains further contributes to insulin resistance and inflammation and feeds the cancer cells.
• Hydrolyzed Chicken Liver: Chicken liver that has literally been boiled in hydrochloric acid and then neutralized with sodium hydroxide.  This is actual poison.
• Soybean Meal: A protein source that has been super processed and made at extremely high temperatures, causing more advanced glycation end products to form, which are in fact linked to cancer.  Read more on that here. 
• Brown Rice: This is a starchy grain that again will spike glucose and feed cancer cells. 
• Cracked Pearled Barley: Yet another carbohydrate that is produced when the seed hull and bran are removed from barley.  Another glucose spiking and cancer-feeding ingredient. 
• Egg Product: Real eggs would be ideal, but this is some by-product used that definitely does not contain the nutrition of an egg. 
• Chicken Liver Flavor and Pork Liver Flavor: This is not actually liver, which would be very healthy.  It is some mystery flavor of chicken and pork that manufacturers are not required to specify.  These are typically highly processed. 
• Dried Beet Pulp and Dried Citrus Pulp: Dried beet pulp is a by-product of of sugar beets and dried citrus pulp is a by-product of fruit that has been squeezed out.  Both of these are typically highly process, genetically modified and again will feed those cancer cells because they are sugar.
• Vitamins and Chemicals: Vitamins and chemicals that have been added to the food because the way it is processed literally strips the food of all nutrients.  If the ingredients were so healthy in the first place, vitamins wouldn't have to be added back into the mix.  

The only ingredients that have a shot at optimizing nutrition for dogs with cancer are chicken, coconut oil and fish oil.  The rest of the ingredients are highly inflammatory, low quality, heavily processed and high in sugar that will feed the cancer cells and make them grow bigger.   

If you literally just fed your dog chicken, coconut oil and fish oil, you'd actually have a much better shot at keeping your dog with cancer alive as opposed to feeding the Hill's Onc blend of poison. 

Unfortunately, the kibble companies are in the business of making money and not in the business of optimizing nutrition or helping your dog thrive regardless of any claim they make.  

If your dog does have cancer, eliminate all processed food and feed an ancestrally appropriate, nutrient dense diet. Feeding  a raw food diet or home-cooked die is the way to go. Consider adding supplements as well to help strengthen your dog's immune system to help them fight cancer.
